The dragon hand made by WHS students in the fall of 2013 was officially sold on Oct. 29 to the Green River Community College in Auburn, WA for their own production of the play.

Shrek: The Musical consisted of high spirit, comedy, and unforgettable nights. The musical had hand-made props created by many students and parents, as well as the giant dragon. With nowhere to put all the props, co-producer Jill Sheets sold them on Oct. 29.

The dragon, included with the smaller props from the musical, were picked up by the Green River Community College. The college’s theatre, Heavier Than Air, bought the dragon for $1,000, along with the smaller props to use since they’re putting together their own production of Shrek. The dragon, which took about two and half months to build, was created by the students of Wenatchee High School with the help of the art teacher Don Collins.

“I was one of many people who worked on the dragon, known as the dragon master, along with artist Tony Talbot,” Collins said.

The time and hard work to create the dragon, known as Dragon in the musical, made many people happy to see her go and be useful again.

“I’m very happy, Dragon is moving on with her life instead of being thrown away,” Collins said.

“We don’t want her to disappear, if they decide they have no room for her. We’ll take her back,” Shrek co-producer Selina Danko said.

“I’m thrilled, I don’t have to store it because the bus barn is full,” Sheets said. “There is no place to put it, Dragon will just get dirtied and broken.”
