Junior Baylee Fontaine leads her team through a crowd of fans as they rushed onto the field at the beginning of their game on Sept. 24 against Moses Lake. Although the game resulted in a disappointing loss of 2-3 for the team, the Panthers are eager to play Moses Lake again in hopes of a win.

The Wenatchee High School girls soccer team broke a three-game losing streak on Sept. 26 after beating Cashmere  in a shootout, winning the game 2-1, and went on to beat Davis 2-0 on Oct. 1

The WHS girls soccer team defeated Davis after senior Emily Rader scored both goals for Wenatchee and junior Katie Michkiosky had an assist. With only two-thirds of the season completed, Rader has already broken the school record for most goals in a season with a total of eight goals, beating the previous record of seven.

“I couldn’t be more proud of her. She has worked hard for that record,” said Coach John Springer. “The whole team should be proud of that record. They’ve made [Emily’s] job possible.”

Senior Jackie Bollinger, the goalie for WHS, shut out Davis despite several one-on-one breakaways with the opposition.

Springer believes the previous losses have tested the team. “We are going to play Moses Lake again, and we hope to beat them next time,” said Springer. Wenatchee previously lost to Moses Lake 3-2 on Sept. 24.

Sophomore Rachel Linderman believes the team has continued to improve as the season progresses.

“Each game and practice, we come out ready to play,” said Linderman.“We’re getting better each game. But we still have some work to do.”

Wenatchee plays its next home game against Eastmont on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m.
