“Still Fresh” takes 2014 Powder Puff football championship

The champions of Powder Puff 2014 “Still Fresh” and their coaches, seniors Brady Kuntz and Britt Parkhill.

The legendary two-hour Powder Puff event kicked off Homecoming week last night at the Apple Bowl where teams put in their all for the title of Powder Puff Champions. The event kept the crowd entertained with plenty of enthusiasm and team spirit from the numerous teams and players.

Despite the cold temperatures and rainy weather, all teams gave it their best. From sliding, tackling, hair pulling, and mud splashing, the girls went hard and in the end a champion was announced.

In a 1-0 game, “Still Fresh” managed to overcome their opponents, “Legion of Babes,” to win the championship game and take home the title of first place. Following “Legion of Babes,” “Diamond Killas” placed third and Babe Runners placed fourth.

“It feels great [to win]. We had a great group of girls,” senior assistant Powder Puff coach Brady Kuntz said.

“Still Fresh” reacted to the championship score with plenty of screaming and jumping up and down. “I feel amazing! I was scared going in but I played smart,” senior Maddie Steitz said.

This was the team’s first year playing in the championship round. “It was way less intimidating because we were seniors,” senior Ashton Blanksma said.

After four years of placing only as high as third, the team had the motivation to go out and get the championship title. “I feel we captured motivation and we believed,” senior coach Britt Parkhill said. “We deserved to win.”
