A student and a staff member. Evan Lagunas Dominguez is an apprentice for Wenatchee School District’s tech department. Lagunas is a senior at Wenatchee High school and has spent the last year and a half working for the school.
“I love talking to people and I like working in tech support,” Lagunas said.
His interest for the position sparked from his outgoing character and love for technology. Lagunas enjoys his job being centered around communication with others. He often has to utilize his abilities with technology to help others troubleshoot problems with computers, projectors and other technology. He heard about the job from a friend who had it and had immediate interest in filling that position.
A day in the life of Lagunas looks like coming to school at seven in the morning to work and working through first period, he then goes to his classes as usual and after school he works for a while longer until his work is done. He, along with others in the tech department work with the teachers, staff and students to fix their computers or chromebooks. He has to check his email for tech tickets which are requests from staff and students for help fixing their technology issues.
“I always liked being hands on,” Lagunas said “being a tech support specialist is an amazing opportunity to be hands on.”
His interest for technology sparked from it being very hands on and engaging. Lagunas is hoping to be a tech support specialist in the future and believes this apprenticeship is setting him up perfectly for his future in tech. He is getting many opportunities to learn about the tech support field and improve his skills in regards to technology and communication.
The job does come with its struggles; he says chromebook check out and check in is extremely busy and difficult. With those times being school starting and school ending, there can be many things going on at once making it difficult to deal with.
Lagunas has been nominated for the NCW Tech Alliance Future Innovators Award which recognizes his hard work and talent in technology. The award is given to those who exhibit innovative thinking, exceptional technical abilities and problem solving skills.
Though his work may not always be seen, Lagunas is one of the people that Wenatchee High School couldn’t run without. Through his help and hard work within the school he has become a valued member of the school community.
