On Sept. 8 foul odors were reported coming from an abandoned Tesla registered under singer/songwriter David Anthony Burke, professionally known as D4vd. Following the report of odors, human remains, confirmed to be those of 15 year old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, were discovered within the car.
Rivas Hernandez was reported missing during April of 2024, while she was still 13.
“Los Angeles police officials have described her body as severely decomposed, suggesting she died while she was still 14,” The Los Angeles Times said. Rivas’ birthday was the day before she was found, Sept. 7.
The news has sparked large amounts of speculation on social media platforms, with some drawing attention to lyrics in Burke’s songs that could be referring to Rivas. While what seems to be a large population of people believe that Burke may have killed Rivas, the police have yet to name the singer as a suspect.
Though he is not a suspect, his house was searched and the LAPD is in possession of several items of evidence that will be analyzed by detectives in the coming days, according to ABC 7 Eyewitness news. The LAPD is yet to report any person of interest or any suspect in the case.
“The case is currently a death investigation,” NBC said.
While the LAPD have yet to release much information about the case, the internet’s digging has caused a resurfacing of song lyrics, social media posts and shared tattoos that many social media users say may highlight Burke’s guilt. While this evidence may seem damning, none of the reports have been confirmed by authorities leaving the general public to speculate, and creating chaos amongst hardcore fans of the artist.
Following the events of the last two weeks, D4vd has cancelled his world tour, as well as canceling his show in Seattle on Sept. 15.
A spokesperson for Burke stated that he was cooperating with authorities and assisting with the investigation on Sept. 9, the day after the body was found. Burke’s attorney has not responded to requests for comment from major news sources.
