I think we can all agree that the genre romcom is amongst one of the best genres. While that may seem extreme, I will be telling you everything you need to know about some of my favorite romcom movies.
Starting off extremely strong we have 10 Things I Hate About You. I don’t care what anyone says, this movie will never be overrated, and is one of the very few films I can rewatch many times. One of my favorite things about this movie is the multiple love stories, and how they all end up connecting in the end, playing out a beautiful story. The plot line of Cameron wanting to date Bianca, but isn’t able to due to her fathers rules, until Bianca’s anti-social sister, Kat, dates adds onto an additional side story of Cameron paying the mysterious guy at their school, Patrick to go out with Kat, which they end up falling in love, makes the movie so much more dynamic. If I were to rate this movie, I would definitely give it a 10/10.
Next we have another older, but still great one, “She’s The Man”. I feel like what made this movie such a good romcom was the iconic Amanda Bynes.. The storyline is so fun, where Viola, played by Bines, has to pretend to be her twin brother in order to play on the boys soccer team, because the girls soccer team was cut. Not only does it bring the comedy, but the romance side too, where Viola ends up falling in love with her roommate. The part I really like about this movie is Viola trying to act or talk like how a guy might, even when she sounds nothing like one, especially watching it more recently. While I really enjoyed this movie, I won’t give it as good of a rating as 10 Things I Hate About You, instead it’s more of a 7/10.
Another one of my all time favorite romcoms is How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I always get such a good laugh from this movie, while it does give me some second hand embarrassment sometimes, it’s such a good story with a beautiful ending that I really love. I would rate this movie a solid 8/10 and I would definitely recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet.
I think what is so special about these movies is the fact they aren’t new, and are seen as more of a classic watch. In my opinion, older romcoms are definitely something I enjoy more, rather than the newer ones.
