Apple announces new iPhone, software update

The Apple Company released information today at their event held in Cupertino, Calif., regarding the new iPhone iOS 7 software as well as the new iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S.

The new iOS 7 is a free software upgrade that is available to most iPhones and iPads including iPhone 4+, iPad 2+, iPad mini and fifth generation iPod touch. The update will add many new features including an improved notification center, iWork, iMovie, new ringtones, iTunes Radio, and an updated Siri that even allows you to select a male voice. The new software has also updated photos where pictures can be grouped by time, date, and even location taken, as a better way to organize your favorite memories including vacations, parties, or even entire years. According to senior vice president of software engineering at Apple, Craig Federighi, “Downloading iOS 7 is like getting an all new phone that you already know how to use.” The upgrade will be free to download starting Sept. 18.

The iPhone 5C is said to be a fun new design that will be available in five colors including green, white, blue, pink, and yellow. This less expensive model, made of high quality plastic, includes a new FaceTime HD camera and iSight camera. The 16GB model will start at $99, and the 32GB model at $199 with a two-year contract.The iPhone 5C will be available for pre-order on Sept 13.

But according to Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple, the iPhone 5S, “is the most forward-thinking phone” Apple has ever created. This new version of the iPhone will be available in three colors including black, gold, and silver made of high grade aluminum. The phone contains many new upgrade including, new CPU, which will allow performance to be 40 times faster than the original iPhone. The 5S has a 10 hour 3G talk time as well as 250 hours of standby. The camera has been updated creating clearer photos with automatic white balance and exposure settings. But the biggest feature of the 5S is the new security addition. A touch ID system. The home button actually scans your fingerprint, making it Apple’s best security measure yet. The 16GB model starts starts a $199, 32GB at $299 and 64 GB at $399. Both the iPhone 5C and 5S will be available in stores on Sept 20.
