As basketball season tips off, so does a new era in Wenatchee boy’s basketball. It’s Kellen Drake’s first year at WHS. Drake talks about how it is coming to WHS from a small school in Entiat and the difference between the two,
“I’ve been at Entiat high school for the past seven years, so coming to a school the size of Wenatchee, there’s challenges, but there’s positives too,” Drake said. “There’s a lot more kids to work with and I feel we have a great group of kids who are working really hard.”
Drake mentions that the seniors have stood out to him a lot so far, bringing up Ryder Ray, Travis Torres, Owen Harle, Anthony Garcia and various others.
“Our seniors have done a great job of trying to do what I’m asking them to do and they’ve all done a great job of leading and I’m very fortunate for that,” Drake said.
When bringing up hopes for the season, Drake explains how they are working to put a good team on the court and his number one goal.
“We’re really working on trying to put a team on the court that competes super hard all the time [and one] that Wenatchee students can be proud of,” Drake said.
Despite not always having the greatest luck, Wenatchee’s spirit never wavers when it comes to their sports teams. The Panthers look forward to more games as the season goes on, with their next home game being this Sat., Dec. 13.
