Football club starts to fund directly

Wenatchee High School football players of all ages will now be assisted by a new club, and Wenatchee football activities are now on its way to being more heavily funded than other sporting groups in the valley, due to the direct donations and funds they will now receive from the Wenatchee Valley Football Club.

WFC was recently created by many parents and coaches in attempt to turn Wenatchee football into a nationally recognized program, said club president Jeff Martin, who has had two of his children go through the Wenatchee football program. The club will hopefully fund the football program to a much higher level than what the Wenatchee Booster Club was able to give them.

Martin has already planned many events that will give Wenatchee football a kickstart toward its goals, like golf tournaments this summer and auctions in the fall. “Through our efforts, we will certainly build champions for life,” Martin said.

WFC supports and funds the Youth Football Club of Wenatchee, which has players from first grade through high school age.

“Our hope is to unite all of Wenatchee’s football players together in one powerful group. We’ll be able to give funding in a way we never have before, because we just weren’t happy with how much funding we were currently getting. I want to give kids the support to play football all the way through high school,” WHS Football Coach Scott Devereaux and WFC chairmen said. “Too many talented kids are dropping out of football for no good reason; we’ll hopefully motivate them to keep on going.”

The WFC will run the youth football league in Wenatchee, which includes getting teams as young as first grade to participate in out-of-state games.

“We are excited to watch WHS football grow in popularity and continue to develop their very successful program,” Booster Club President Mike Doerr said. “We will continue to support each of those athletes with our resources. WHS football will still be supported by the school’s athletic booster club, which appropriately distributes money to all WHS sporting groups. Now, supporters can donate directly to all things football.”
