Junior Andy Schmidt placed third in Multiple Percussion, and senior Dylan Ryan placed second in Snare Drum at the State Solo Ensemble competition last weekend held at Central Washington University in Ellensburg. 

Wenatchee’s large percussion ensemble also received an  honorable mention as well as straight superior ratings. Superior is the highest rating offered. 

Winners from the solo ensemble regionals held at the end of January qualified for the competition.

Students wrote their own solos and ensembles by themselves for the competition.

“We’ll offer a little bit of class time, I’ll give them some guidance, teachers will give them guidance but it’s the kids working stuff up on their own,” band teacher Jim Kovach said.
