Interact Club raises money to build home

The Wenatchee High School Interact Club is making a big name for themselves with their next project. They are teaming up with Habitat for Humanity to first raise money, then build a house for a family in the Wenatchee area this August.

The Club has raised over $36,000, conducting multiple fundraising events and receiving donations. One of the biggest fundraising opportunities that will support this project is a music video filmed by sophomore Wil Jorgenson.

“Making this music video will give our project a lot of good publicity,” Interact Club adviser Jon Magnus said. “The end of the video will include a quick link directly to ASB for viewers to donate.”

WHS graduates Gabe Massey and his band, featuring Jackson Powell, wrote and produced a song for the video to follow Interact Club in their journey through this project.

“It’s great to be involved because when you see someone who’s homeless or less fortunate, you know that you can really make a difference in their lives and that you are actively involved with getting someone like them a home,” said Interact Club Secretary Danika Kapeikis. “It makes you feel really lucky for what you have.”

Another successful fundraising event hosted by Interact Club was the Visconti’s catered dinner and benefit concert held on April 22 in the WHS auditorium. “The concert along with a silent auction was our biggest fundraising event to date,” Magnus said.

Other ways the club has raised money was doing yard work and also standing on the side of the road with “Happy” signs where, according to Magnus, they raised over $300 in less than two hours

“We hope to reach our fundraising goal of $50,000 by the end of this school year,” Magnus said. “Once we raise enough money we should be able to work on the house later this summer.”
