Lumsden wins big at LA talent competition

For most young people, the dream of show business is just simply a dream, but for junior Gary Lumsden, that dream is a lot closer to reality.

Early in January, Lumsden traveled with his family to Los Angeles to compete against 700 other hopeful contestants, and in front of more than 250 agents and managers in the annual International Models and Talent Association (IMTA) competition. Lumsden competed in an array of categories and finished in the top 10 for four events and won two — best screenshot and on-camera host.

Lumsden started his road to an acting career more than three years ago when he was scouted by Seattle Talent and became a career client with the organization. Seattle Talent is an organization that prides themselves on discovering the hottest new talent and helping their clients reach their full potential through workshops and other exciting opportunities. Since coming aboard, Lumsden has attended many acting workshops and vocal classes to help improve upon his talents.

Lumsden is extremely involved in music and acting at Wenatchee High School by being a part of six music, dancing, and acting programs.

“Gary is just an all around great kid,” Choir Director Dawn McCormick said. “He’s always wanting to help others and try new things. He’s practically like a sponge, always wanting to absorb knowledge.”

“I sacrifice my lunch to have two fourth periods,” Lumsden said. ”It’s the only way for me to do Mariachi and Chamber Singers.”

Lumsden expressed his sacrifice to pursue what he loves and goes on to show gratitude for his supportive parents.

“Through it all my parents have stood by my side, loving and supportive. They have spent countless hours driving me from class to class and I can’t be any more appreciative.”

After high school, Lumsden hopes to continue on his pursuit to a life of acting and is on the cusp of signing a deal with a talent management company Management 101.

“After high school I want to make a career out of acting and maybe move down to Los Angeles,” Lumsden said. “College is something that I want to do, but it’s just got to make sense for me.”
