Over the weekend of Nov. 14 to 15 the Wenatchee Highschool’s girls swim and dive team attended their state competition. After dominating at districts, qualifying members from swim and dive set foot on their path to compete, and hopefully demolish, at the event being held in Seattle.

WHS ended up placing 14th out of every team attending. Select swimmers such as Lindsay Sutton, Marieka Campbell and Sadie Sullivan placed individually in their respective events. Diver Maile England placed 16th overall after being the only WHS diver to make it to the finals.

“Being together through trials and tribulations brought them [the team] closer to each other, which I think carried over later in the season when we start working hard and ramping up our yardage that they could push through for each other because they feel that bond with their teammates and they’re willing to put in 110 percent,” head coach and former WHS swim and diver, Christian Cutter said.

Throughout the season Cutter felt that the team of intelligent young women were really able to come together and support each other as a team. In the future, Cutter hopes to continue this bond whilst also experimenting by bringing new aspects of training into practices.

“I think we have a lot of potential and talent on the team that is in the position to step up, going into next season, and see some improvements,” Cutter said, “If we can get enough improvements across the team, then I definitely think we’re in the running to compete well at our final meet next season.”

Cutter, the assistant swim coaches and the dive coaches all put in the work this season. The WHS girls swim and dive team may not have brought home the first place trophy, but they brought home first place memories and experience that can’t be faked.
