The Wenatchee High School Girls’ Swim and Dive team kicked off its season with a splash at its first league meet this Tuesday, facing off against Moses Lake. They were led by some standout performances, which aided their victory.

Head coach Christian Cutter, now in his second year leading this team, expressed that the experience from last year has been a guide to be able to be more effective this year.

“This is my second year coaching here, so I’m able to focus more on the details and be fully present for the swimmers, “Cutter said. “I’m very detail-oriented this season, hoping for everyone to have good drops by the district meet.”

Maddie Moore, Sadie Sullivan, Marieka Campbell and Lindsay Sutton earned the Panthers first in the 200-yard medley relay.

Sullivan had individual wins in the 200 IM and the 100 breaststroke, where Campbell finished second and Jealynn Burns placed third.

Campbell claimed first in the 50 freestyle, which helped solidify her goals for the season ahead.

“I’m aiming to swim the 100 breaststroke in 1:08 and help our relay team place on the podium at state,” Campbell said.

Other strong performances included Sutton’s win in the 100 backstroke. Starla Anderson and Sophia Wilgus also had podium finishes, both in the 100 butterfly. Maddie Moore and Lily Hansen placed second and third in the 100 freestyle, while Norah Endsley took third in the 500 Freestyle.

On the diving side, Maile England and Carissa Lundberg also contributed valuable points.

Coach Cutter stressed that the building of team chemistry is just as important as individual success.
“Outside of that, I really want these girls to form relationships that will last the rest of their life. So seeing bonding is a very important part of our program.” Cutter said.

With their strong start, the Panthers look forward to upcoming meets as they set their goals towards a district title.
