The Amazon prime movie The Map that Leads to You stars Madelyn Cline as Heather and KJ Apa as Jack. These two stars are the main characters throughout the movie and fall in love while traveling following Jack’s grandfather’s diary from when he was fighting in the war in Italy.

Heather and her two friends Connie and Amy, played by Sofia Wylie and Madison Thompson, take a journey starting in Spain. Amy soon gets smitten over a guy she met on the train and is occupied. During this time Jack and Heather’s first encounter with one another is Jack jumping up on top of the luggage racks and falling asleep reading the same book as Heather.

The romance sets in and the two fall in love quickly and Heather starts to extend her trip. As Heather and Jack are touring all around Italy they are visiting the very spot his grandfather drew and wrote in his journal.

After the girls long day of travel they get dressed up to head out to the bar. Heather and Jack spend the night dancing, singing and enjoying one another. The two head out to the train and end up spending the whole night together on a ferry aerial tramway and soon realize their law breaking actions when they wake up to the sunrise.

Hitting the fast forward button, now Heather extended her trip to travel more with Jack … spoiler we all saw it coming!

So the love birds are going from adventure to adventure and Heather comes up with the basic idea of Jack coming back to New York with her. Adventures are now over and Jack is faced with a difficult decision yet he’s hiding a very big lie and that can change their whole life yet he stays quiet and ends up ghosting her at the airport. Every love movie has the classic story, fall in love, everything is going great, boom, lie or some type of inconvenience, fight or ghosting, and then wow true love wins and back together and everything is perfect.

Jack’s story is a little different because Connie and the man she met in Italy are getting married and the groom was ghosted as well. My original thought was he died, but then the groom suddenly has this note for Heather and she reads it of course.

Hitting the remote again and the giant secret that is now out is that Jack is dying of Cancer and lied to Heather about his health that way he could travel with her but ghosted her on the way to New York because; one he couldn’t afford the medical bills there, and two because he was still so destined to visit every single place in his grandfather’s notebook and there was one page that got ripped out of the notebook that Heather and Jack put back together. In the note Jack left was a picture of that last page so her heart was calling to him because she knew this is where he was at.

She gets on a plane, flies there, runs to him and the two dance in the festival and fall magically in love and that’s the movie. Overall my ranking for the movie would be a eight point five out ten just because I felt like I could guess what was coming next just based on my opinion and personal experience coming from watching almost every romantic movie out there.

The things I liked were that the actors played the roles well and were fun and interesting to watch, where the story was filmed was beautiful and I like the back story.

My advice for improvement if there is a second movie would be to have them get married, he’s healed and that there would be a plot twist but make it original. I enjoyed the movie and if you’re interested in the full version it’s available on Amazon Prime.
