Podcasts have become extremely popular over the last few years. A lot of people listen to them while driving, working out or even doing homework. Because they are so easy to start, it feels like almost everyone has a podcast now, especially influencers and celebrities. While some podcasts are really entertaining and worth the hype, others can feel repetitive or not as interesting after a while. I chose six podcasts, some popular that I either enjoy or see talked about a lot online and ranked them based on entertainment and uniqueness.
The podcast I ranked as number one is “Rotten Mango” hosted by Stephanie Soo. This podcast focuses mainly on true crime stories. What makes it stand out from other crime podcasts is how detailed the storyline is. So does a really good job explaining complicated cases and keeping listeners interested the whole time. She also talks about the victims in a respectful way and makes sure to explain the background of each case. Sometimes the stories can be very intense or disturbing, but overall the way the stories are told makes the podcast very engaging. Because of that, I think it deserves the number one spot.
Second on my list is “Call Her Daddy” hosted by Alex Cooper. This podcast is one of the most well known podcasts right now. Cooper talks about relationships, life experiences and she often interviews celebrities and influencers. One thing I like most about this podcast is that the conversations feel honest and sometimes very direct, which is why many people listen to it. At the same time, some episodes can feel a little repetitive because they focus on similar topics. Even with that, the podcast is still entertaining and has definitely had a big impact on podcast culture.
Keeping up with the third on my list it would probably be “The Broski Report” hosted by Brittany Broski. Broski is known for her funny personality, and that comes through a lot in this podcast. The episodes often feel like you are just listening to someone talk casually, which makes it easy and fun to listen to. She talks about different things like internet culture, random thoughts and sometimes personal experiences. One downside is that the podcast can feel a little all over the place sometimes because the topics change quickly, but the humor still makes it enjoyable.
Next is “Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain” hosted by Emma Chamberlain. This podcast is a little different from the others because it focuses more on personal thoughts and deeper topics like mental health, growing up and dealing with life changes. Chamberlain is very honest in her episodes, which is something a lot of listeners appreciate. Sometimes the episodes feel slower and more reflective compared to other podcasts, but that can also be what makes it more interesting. It feels more like listening to someone think out loud about real life.
Fifth and last on my list is “In Your Dreams with Owen Thiele” hosted by Owen Thiele. The podcast focuses a lot on pop culture and conversations with different guests. Thiele has a fun personality and brings a lot of energy to the show. Some episodes are really entertaining, especially when he talks about celebrity culture or funny experiences. However, compared to the other podcasts on this list, it doesn’t always stand out as much. It’s still enjoyable, but might need some stronger or more memorable topics to compete with some of the bigger podcasts.
Overall, podcasts are a great way for people to be able to share stories, opinions and conversations. At the same time, the podcast world might be getting a little crammed because so many people are starting them now. When there are thousands of podcasts to choose from, it can be harder for new ones to stand out. The podcasts that usually succeed are the ones with strong personalities, interesting plots and creative concepts. Even though there are a lot of podcasts today, the best ones will always keep people coming back to listen.
