The newest Conjuring movie proves that they still know how to summon chills. It turns out that evil spirits aren’t the only thing that refuse to die – the franchise is back and it’s still wicked fun.

The movie focuses on a family that’s being haunted by a mysterious entity intertwined with a cursed mirror. While retired the Warrens are pulled back in to confront the powerful demonic force, facing a case that brings a past terrifying event in the Warrens’ life.
The Conjuring movies have been extremely popular in the horror world since the first one was released in 2013.A significant reason why many people enjoy the franchise is that it’s based on a true story. There are 4 Conjuring movies, but what some people aren’t aware of is that to fully understand the whole story, you have to go all the way back to the very start of the Conjuring Universe.
If you want to watch the real chronological order of the movies, you should start with The Nun (2018), Annabelle: Creation (2017), The Nun II (2023), Annabelle (2014), The Conjuring (2013), Annabelle Comes Home (2019), The Curse of La Llorona (2019), The Conjuring 2 (2016), The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021), and finally The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025).
My favorite movie from the franchise is Annabelle: Creation. I feel Annabelle is an important key character because she acts as a gateway for other spirits in the Warrens’ artifact room. Annabelle is a conduit for the demonic entity Malthus. Malthus manipulates vulnerable people into giving up their souls, and its presence is often accompanied by a rumbling sound and an unexplainable movement from the doll. Annabelle’s connection to the Warrens’ daughter Judy establishes the significance of Annabelle.
A main part of the movie was the Smurl family case. Based on the real-life 1986 case which lasted 15 years. The movie illustrates their house being tormented by a demonic presence connected to an antique mirror that is given as a gift to Heather Smurl from her grandparents.
The movie, which was released in theaters on Sep. 5, 2025 shattered box office records with $187 million global opening weekend, making it the second-highest horror movie debut ever!
I can’t say the movie was the best out of all, but I believe it created a wonderful ending to the story. It was able to tie in the chilling cases we’ve followed for over a decade. Instead of just adding jumpscares, it leans into the history of the Warrens and gives longtime fans a sense of closure.
