It’s crazy to think how the music industry has evolved over the years. From the artists you know now to an AI artist getting on the billboard, but is it really that surprising that an AI generated “artist” was on there? Let’s get into that.
Back then when the music was really coming to a rise was in the 1920s with the radio and also the films. At the time it was mostly jazz in some countries so there was not that much genre of music but when the Harlem Renaissance came to play from African Americans a whole new genre of music bloomed like a more new up to date jazz also R&B.
Moving forward in time to the 50s a big bloom of new artists and boybands came. There was also a new genre of music Rock&Roll with Billy Haley & His Comets, Ike Turner’s “Rocket 88” and the quote on quote “King Of Rock And Roll” Elvis Presly. Of course the top charting artist among them is Elvis Presly winning numerous awards.
Now to the 2000s this is where the music and artists I would say really came alive with all the retro and different sounds of music being brought to the world. Singers like Britney Spears, Avril Lavigne, Black Eyed Peas and the queen herself Beyonce. Once you hear any of these songs the way the wave of nostalgia hits you when you listen to them or even seeing an old picture of them really brings you to the year of the 2000s. That’s what music really should be about, these artists are associated with the 2000s making them a really big staple to the GenZ audience.
From the 2000s to the 2020s the vibe in music has really changed if you think about it. From 2010-2019 the music was still really enjoyable to listen to like artists from Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, One Direction and many more great artists that gave their time into making great music that became a staple for that decade. Now I would say from 2020 to recent times now in 2025 the music has really lost its meaning or that same feel of nostalgia, like yes there are still some great artists such as Billie Eilish, SZA, both charting on the billboard, but… to recent times now finding out that this new AI “artist” has managed to even chart on the billboard is honestly not even that shocking in this time now. The way that AI has gotten so much more use from this year is immense. Xania Monet is the AI “prodigy” that has gotten on the billboard next to real life singers. Imagine you putting all your work into your album, creating all the meaningful lyrics, taking your time and energy to put out this amazing creation for all your fans and then simply getting passed by a computer generated program that was given a prompt is very I would say unfair and just frustrating. I mean it even has its own genre of music called “A-pop” like what! This should not be normalized at all. Given that you can really see the way we have lost the real meaning of music.
